Roll the Dice
There are a Candy Land board of possibilities the await you on your running adventures.
Every run need not be faster than the last, a constant striving for speed, for mileage, for elevation.
“What a relief it is to let myself be soft, to allow instead of strive. I don't think this is giving up. It's just a different kind of becoming,” @robinoula on Twitter.
Do we allow ourselves to play basketball with our friends, even if we’ll never dunk?
Do we allow ourselves to play an instrument, sure we’ll never headline MSG?
Do we allow ourselves to simply run, with no expectation of winning the NYC marathon?
Roll the dice, and make a move. If you’re moving, you’re winning. Even if you’re injured, you can stretch, or ride a bike, which is still winning.
Your effort today is just one space on a game board, and you get to where you’re going one space at a time.
This past week was very hot, so I didn’t run as much, which meant I didn’t get to soak in the music vibes to get me to the top of some local hills. That being the case, I rediscovered ‘Greyland’ by Tiny Hazard (Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify), filled with a magical lightness that I know can help me get in some miles this upcoming week.
